Wintering

I was gifted this gorgeous book full of wisdom from a dear friend a couple of weeks ago. If you’re not aware it is a “beautiful gentle exploration of the dark season of life and the light of spring that eventually follows.”

Katherine May talks of quiet times; painful times; times when to retreat a little from life just as much as the seasonal retreat and consolidation of life that Mother Nature offers every year. I was struck by how much the first few chapters resonated with me. It is time to Winter! I’ve reached another Autumn and Winter season of my own as I come to the end of an intense period of study. I see that I am in limbo! I have new shoots in the form of offerings for you but they are waiting for the right conditions in which to be shared.

May also writes “the starkness of winter can reveal colours that we might otherwise miss,” which gives me food for thought. What might I miss if I were to charge on ahead without wintering? I see it is time to consolidate my learning, my Shiatsu practice, and to bring this truth into my contact with others when we meet on the mat. A chance to restore, an opportunity to consolidate change and my gained body wisdom from the year.

Just like the trees outside. Retreat a little, lose some leaves and turn inward to grow in the darker, colder months ahead of us. Happy wintering and do get in touch if you are interested in consolidating your energy as well in the form of a healing shiatsu session.
